Meet the chefs that will be participating at this year’s Good Taste Gwinnett. Stay tuned for a new chef highlight every week leading up to the event.
PARKSIDE DISTRICT MEET THE CHEF
Born in San Jose, CA, Chef Paul Thai made his way to Georgia when he was just two years old, residing in Tucker so far since. After attending Georgia State with thoughts of going into the accounting or social work field, his love for food took over.
Chef Paul loved cooking growing up, watching his mom. His goal was to one day open his own restaurant. He was classically trained at Le Cordon Bleu Atlanta liking the basic formation and structure that the school taught him about the food industry. Chef worked with master chef Tom Catheral while working his way up the ranks at local Atlanta restaurants. A long time friendship and aquantance with the ownership group for Parkside District paved the way for Chef Paul to be a part of opening the restaurant and fulfilling his dream.
FAVORITE CULINARY MEMORY:
Opening Parkside District was Chef Paul’s favorite moment. “It had it’s ups and downs getting things going...and we had a lot of support from family and friends” says Chef, but “it was a dream come true”.
WHAT I’LL BE TASTING AT GOOD TASTE GWINNETT:
Get ready for Parkside District’s famous SHRIMP & GRITS - Parkside District will be tasting at Good Taste Gwinnett: Shrimp & Grits - gulf shrimp, smoked gouda grits, blistered cherry tomatoes, charred corn, andouille sausage, creole sherry bisque and okra crisps.
Paul plays basketball in his free time, outside of work. “It’s a balance of mental health, a stress relief for me” he says.
On MY Bucket List:
Paul eventually wants to give back to the community by teaching culinary arts to students. The restaurant is already looking to work with local food co-ops for the holiday seasons.
